Photographs of Jupiter

As you can see, Jupiter might look a little different to you. And the reason for that is because Jupiter switched shells, her first shell switch since I got her! So exciting! I love her in this shell, so vibrant with the natural colors!
Recently, I gave Jupiter a bath all by herself since Kirby was in the process of molting. Jupiter recently came up from her molt so I decided that it was a good time to bathe her.
While I gave her a bath, I took advantage of the situation and snapped a few shots of Jupiter.

New Crabitat Setup

Hey guys! Sorry that I haven't updated on this blog very much and in a very long while, it'll the mark of 1 year without updating to you guys this May. Eeeekkk, sorry about that. You guys already know that I have Kirby and Jupiter and just an update, that hasn't changed, there aren't any new additions to the crabby family. I am thinking about getting another one though, I really want an Ecuadorian crab since they are more active than purple pinchers, plus they can't get too big so that's a plus. But they require more than a purple pincher does so once I update and do a pretty big haul for my crabitat than I will consider getting one.

Anyways, I wanted to update to you guys on my new crabitat setup, as you know, about every 3 months or so, I clean out my crabitat, replace the substrate, wash everything and made a new setting space for them to roam around for the new 3 months or so. So, that's what I did and the picture is the end result of that, I added a new and huge tunnel along with two thick sticks/branches for them in their new crabitat. And the rest is the same, food and water bowl along with the same wooden log and the plants, of course. But yeah, I updated my crabitat.

Guys, I'm pretty slack on this whole blog posting thing, but, if you guys want to be updated more often than YouTube is where you'll find the updates and other kind of videos on my crabs. Here is the link if you wanna check it out: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSZmDmrH5lqL_g-bXNr6-Rw

Jupiter's 1st molt

Hey guys! Today is very exciting because today is Jupiter's 1st time molting with me. I had to clean up the crabitat since it's a new month. I didn't get to Jupiter in time to put her in an isolation tank so I decided to do the soda bottle technique. So, when I was cleaning the crabitat, Jupiter was in the middle of her molt. Because of this, I decided that it would be too risky to scoop her out and place her in an isolation tank, so, I just got a soda bottle, rinsed it well, and cut it to the length I wanted, and finally, put it right on top of where Jupiter was molting. I decided to do this because it was just too risky. My main concern was that Kirby would eat Jupiter because of the exoskeleton smell and because she is rather larger than the size of Jupiter, which makes it more likely.

And I just hope that Jupiter's first molt with me will be a successful one and that she would come up healthy. So, yeah. I'm very excited to say that this is Jupiter's first time molting with me!

New Crabitat Setup

Hey guys! As you may or may not already know, I fully clean my crabitat once every month. So, since, it's now the a new month, May, I decided to clean my crabitat.

I added a new thing to my crabitat and because of this I got rid of something in my crabitat. I added a new garden pot and got rid of the hamster wheel. All the shells are stored in the garden pot to make space and to let the crabs climb on as well.  So, yeah, this is my new crabitat setup.

1 year with Kirby

Hey guys, so recently, in the month of April, last year I got Kirby from a souvenir shop at Myrtle beach. And that day recently passed by marking one year with Kirby!
I love Kirby's personality and everything about her. She's such a sweet yet daring hermit crab. In the span of one year, Kirby has grown bigger and bigger. She used to be the size of a ping pong ball but now she's the size of a tennis ball. So much growth in such a short amount of time both physically and personality wise. I hope the same will be with Jupiter as well as it is with Kirby.

Actual Hermit Crab Videos

So, you might be wondering why I made two blogs with the exact same subject. Well, it's because the other blog post is a blog post with the link to my hermit crab videos which is on my YouTube channel. But, this blog post is going to actually contain my hermit crab videos from my YouTube channel instead of just a link.
I will update this blog post with more videos the more videos I make.

Meet Jupiter

Hey guys, sorry that I haven't posted a blog in a while. I've been occupied with my school but now I'm should be more involved in this blog since school is now over for me. I do apologize. And because of this, this blog post is going to be quite lengthy.

Jupiter
So, this week, I was at Myrtle Beach in SC for a ladies retreat. We had had a great time! We went souvenir shopping and I bought another hermit crab as a companion for Kirby since Sonic died. I picked out a hermit crab without a painted shell and I think all they had were purple pinchers. Most of the hermit crabs in the pained shells were medium sized. And most of the native hermit crabs were from tiny to small, however few were medium. So, like most of the native crabs, my hermit crab was small, about the size of a quarter. I got a purple pincher and named it a gender neutral name since I could not at that current moment determine it's gender. However, on the way back home, I found out the gender of Jupiter. Kirby is going to have a female companion.

Let's talk about Jupiter's personality. I tried to pick a hermit crab that was active and looked like it had all it's limbs and I was successful of finding one, Jupiter. She is active and likes to climb. However, as normal, she is getting used to me, so, she will sometimes, retreat back into the safety her shell offers her. But, more and more, she'll come out of her shell, being more used to me. And because she is new, I try to be extra careful when handling her and try to cause her the least amount of stress possible since she is new. I gave her a blueberry on the way back from the beach and she was nibbling on it for quite a while. She is overall a very sweet yet active hermit crab.

When we got home, I gave Jupiter a bath before placing her in the crabitat. I decided to let Kirby join the bath along with Jupiter to see both of their reactions. When Sonic first met Kirby, Kirby was a bit aggressive and Sonic seemed to be intimidated by Kirby. Sonic was a lit bit smaller than Kirby but not as small as Jupiter is compared to Kirby. And because of Jupiter's size, I was a bit worried letting Kirby meet Jupiter. But, after witnessing them meet each other, no longer are there any worries. Kirby and Jupiter get along so wonderfully with one another.

So, yeah, I got a new hermit crab, Jupiter.
